There are three types of licensed funeral service establishments in Ontario: - Funeral Homes: A full service business that arranges embalming, viewing, graveside services, as well as entombment, cremation, and shipping of remains to other countries.
- Transfer Services: A service that only transfers human remains from the place of death to a holding facility. Preparation of all documents is maintained in order to transfer the remains to a cemetery or crematorium.
- Transfer Services Not Offered To The Public: In Ontario, Coroner’s offices do not possess their own vehicles. As a result, transfer service establishments provide transportation for the coroner. Additionally, the coroner’s office offers embalming services as well as transfer services.
